The Longest Day shines light on the darkness of dementia

The summer solstice is the longest day of the year, the first day of summer and the official kickoff for warm-weather fun in the northern hemisphere. As the sun reaches its peak on this day, June 20, we’re reminded of the enduring dedication of caregivers for individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease.

Every year the Alzheimer’s Association observes The Longest Day as it sheds light on the darkness of living with Alzheimer’s disease. Country Meadows has special teams at every one of its campuses that plan special events to mark The Longest Day and raise money for a great cause.

Check out some of the campus fun fundraising events from this year’s effort to raise money for a cause near and dear to our hearts—fighting Alzheimer’s disease.

Country Meadows of Bethlehem

Our Bethlehem campus hosted a carnival completed with a dunk tank, games, a petting zoo, music and food. Residents in our Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center shared their mad baking skills to make delicious purple cupcakes which were sold at the campus carnival along with resident-crafted jewelry.

Country Meadows of Frederick, Md.

Residents, families, volunteers and co-workers enjoyed a day that started outside on the Connections porch with piano concert, followed by a delicious sundae bar. The day concluded with a Charlie Chaplin movie complete with popcorn and treats. The campus efforts raised more than $700 for Alzheimer’s research!

Country Meadows of York-South (Leader Heights)

Co-workers across campus joined forces to create a hot dog bar with all the fixings. Residents and co-workers enjoyed this summer treat, and their hard work raised more than $500!

Country Meadows of Wyomissing

Campus residents and co-workers enjoyed fun and games in honor of The Longest Day.

Country Meadows of York

Carnival games, including a pie-eating contest, rock-a-thon and pie-in-the-face event were just some of the highlights at the York campus’ festivities to mark The Longest Day. In advance of the day, residents worked extra hard to create crafts and other items sold at a silent auction with proceeds going towards Alzheimer’s research.
